Who is Rubén Sánchez?
I am Rubén Sánchez, I am 33 years old and I am from Gondomar, from a quiet village. I started working here when I was only 16 years old, and I’ve been working here for more than 17 years. Since then, this company has been my professional home.
I work in assembly, adjustment and boilermaking. I like my job, I like seeing things take shape and knowing that what comes out of my hands works.
Outside the workshop, I am a simple person. I enjoy horseback riding, fishing, and enjoying nature. That balances me out.
What did you think when you found out that we would now be Ganain?
I was surprised, to be honest. I did not imagine that everything would be unified under one name. But I did not live it as a loss, but as an evolution.
Now we are a single brand, stronger, more recognizable for customers. It’s not just a question of a name, it’s a way of working together, of joining forces. I was not present at the event Together as Ganain, but I know it was a key moment to visualize where the company is going. The union of all areas under the same identity makes us stronger.
How do you remember your beginnings in the company?
Very different. Before, there were fewer of us, everything was closer, more familiar. You would start a piece and finish it. Today, with the three shifts, that has changed. But we have also gained in size, capacity, ambition.
How do you think this change will affect your day-to-day work?
In practical terms, not much. I will continue doing what I do and what I like. But what does change is the environment, the direction of the company. The fact that a company is betting on new facilities and growth is a very positive sign.
What would you say to your colleagues in this new stage?
To take it easy. They should adapt little by little and not lose sight of the fact that we are all building the future together. Everyone, from their own place, makes this work.
How do you see the team?
I see desire, enthusiasm. The fact that new ships are being proposed, new projects… that generates movement, and that movement gives me confidence. It motivates me.
Is there any project that you remember with special affection?
Yes, there are many. But one that marked me was a big project of reels for ships. It was complex; we even had people come from Canada to train us. At first it seemed impossible. But we did it. And that leaves its mark on you.
What do you think of the internal initiatives that are being promoted?
I think they are very good. They help us to get to know each other beyond the workshop, to recover that team spirit. Although sometimes I cannot participate, as it happened with the event ”Together as Ganain”, I value very much that they take place. It is important to feel that we all count.
What do you expect from the future of Ganain?
That we continue to grow, but that we do not lose what makes us unique: the closeness, the opportunity to learn, to move forward. I am the fruit of that opportunity. And I would like that more people could live the same.
Your father also worked at Ganain. What has it meant for you to follow in his footsteps within the company?
It has been a great satisfaction. Being able to work at the same company as my father has always given me a special sense of belonging. But it also came with a greater sense of responsibility, an internal commitment not to fail, as I am the son of someone who had already left his mark here.
What values or lessons did he pass on to you regarding this trade and working at Ganain?
He taught me to value the important things. He instilled in me that, beyond the daily grind, what truly makes a difference are the values: being a good person, being humble, appreciating what you have, and knowing how to give back. This approach to work has stayed with me throughout these years.
Stories like Rubén’s reflect the soul of Ganain: people committed to excellence, from the basis of the workshop to the vision of the future. Today, more than ever, we move forward as a single brand, a single team, a single force: Ganain.
